I love it! The two draw-backs are that there are so many different spice bottles and heights and the spices with black lids. I used a Sharpie to mark the names on the lids, but it didn't show well.
(I took these photos during the process, so the old jars are empty, and the old lids are on the new jars already. - That's how I kept track of what was in them until I finished the new lids.)
So for Christmas my awesome in-laws gave me new spice jars
Then I designed special labels for the lids in Adobe Illustrator. I printed the labels on sticker sheets from
I meant to cut them on my Silhouette but the computer was having problems so I cut them by hand. It really wasn't that hard.
They turned out looking fabulous! I even organized the spices by color. All the sweet (baking) spices are green and all the savory (cooking) spices are blue.
Love it! I even ordered an extra box jars so I could have all my spices look this awesome! I'm thinking about coating the labels with Mod Podge or something else to prevent damage.
I'm linking up to this awesome party - head on over to see some really amazing stuff:

Now I wish I had a spice drawer. These are really adorable.
(and I think you meant blue. you have green twice. but what a great visual reminder idea!)
Great idea! I'd love for you to come link up at my party today: http://fastdaze.blogspot.com/2011/01/linky-fridaze-2.html
These are great!! Thanks for the idea! I have minimal (available) cabinet space, so my spices reside in the pantry...which is no where near the kitchen...how inconvenient! You have me thinking of how I can make room in a drawer :)
This is a great project! A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were looking for inexpensive spice jars to hold the spices that my sister brought us from Morocco. We ended up buying a couple of jars from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and reused the old, plastic spice jars we already had. I love your idea of color coding the spices. I am adding this idea to my project list. :)
I love my spice drawer. I lay them all down flat so I can see the labels, and I put non-slip grippy material underneath. It makes such a difference when cooking! Those bottles are cute.
